Introduction
This section is intended to impart a sense of our
engineering, process, and design concepts to the customer
during all phases of SkyFreighter product development. It
includes a description of our development cycles, our Work
Breakdown Structure (WBS) elements, identify team members
and responsibilities, top-level customer requirements (A-
Specs), and Trade Studies to be performed in the Design, Test
& Evaluation (DT&E) and Full Scale Engineering Development
(FSED) phases (see below).
The definitive customer requirements can only be
determined in concert with the negotiated customer's needs,
via trade studies that validate feasibility, cost, and technology
issues under consideration.
Four different size / capability SkyFreighter Air Vehicles
are currently in the concept development phase.
Prototype Air Vehicle (~10 Ton lift capability)
Model SF50T (~50 Ton lift capability)
Model SF500T (~500 Ton lift capability)
Major Program Key events
MAS has broken the program into a phased approach for
both the SF50T and the SF500T. Each approach has its own
set of program milestones and decision gates on how to
proceed to the next step. The three phases are broken out as
follows:
Phase I Design, Test and Evaluation (DT&E)
Phase II Full Scale Engineering Development (FSED)
Phase III Certification and Production
Phase IV - Development of SF500T
Phase I - Design, Test &
Evaluation (DT&E)
During this development period two major elements of a
successful program will be accomplished. Initially all trade and
feasibility studies will define our final engineering to eventually
design and build a 1/5 version of the Model SF50T Prototype Air
Vehicle (PAV) in Phase II. The most important part of Phase I
will be the ITAMMS test bed / demonstration model. ITAMMS is
the key to make SkyFreighter product line a reality.
The PAV will be developed as a test bed for all current and
future technological advancements and systems upgrades. This
Prototype Air Vehicle will not be sold but remain in inventory
until its useful operational life cycle has been obtained. It is
anticipated that this Air Vehicle will support the emerging needs
of homeland security surveillance activities for countries such
as, the United States, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Chile. All
costs to complete final production drawings for this A/V have
been included in our financial projections included in Section IV.
Note that we have not forecast any sales for this smaller,
surveillance Air Vehicle at this time.
Phase I-24 months
major milestones:
Implementation of strategic hiring plan
Implementation of engineering design facility
Securing
long
term
strategic
teaming
agreements
with
subcontractors and material suppliers
Define System Requirements Document (SRD)
Define System Description Document (SDD)
Define Interface Control Documents (ICD's)

Material trade off cost studies
Preliminary Design Review (PDR) PAV
Order Long Lead Time Material (LLTM)
Secure temporary production facility
Secure preliminary lease of Port of Bremerton land
Critical Design Review CDR) PAV
Preliminary environmental studies of land for
potential production facility
Decision to proceed with FSED
Phase II - Full Scale Engineering
Development (FSED)
During this phase, MAS will build and test the 1/5 scale
Prototype Air Vehicle to validate all systems and engineering
design. Engineering drawings and systems revisions will be
made during this phase to ensure the production
SkyFreighter air vehicles perform to all technical
specifications. We anticipate a six month flight test program
to validate all systems. In addition, land will be secured for
the future production facility as well as initial site preparation
and facility planning functions to ensure we can meet our
production schedule outlined in Phase III.
Phase II-15
months
major
milestones:
Early Start: Secure land for Plant One - production facility
Prepare production
Build production schedules
Complete PAV engineering drawings
Define FAA certification program
Manufacture 1/5 scale PAV
Flight crew orientation and training
Execute Flight Test program to secure
engineering data
Incorporate required change
Perform production facility and land studies
Preliminary Design Review (PDR) SF50T
Begin site preparation of production facility
Finalize design of production facility
Preliminary design of special tooling
Decision to proceed with Phase III
Begin FAA certification program
Phase III
Production
Critical Design Review will be accomplished on the SF50T as
well as final production drawings. Final design for the
production facility is being finished based on final engineering
design. We will build two SF50T's to be used for the FAA
certification process. During the FAA certification phase, we
will build two more production SF50T's allowing us to
complete sales our four SF50T's completing Phase III.
Phase III-36 months
